An update with Ruth and a schedule change! [Corestar May Newsletter]

Hello friends,

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! I hope you have had a special day.

I wanted to check in because I know I’ve been quiet for a while. The truth is, this healing process is longer and a little harder than I ever expected, and that makes it hard to share when it's not all “positive and making great progress “ to report. (At least for me).

That being said, I have struggled the most with neck vertebra instability and vertigo. I start next week with a vestibular therapist and am very much looking forward to that. I hope to get some answers and concrete guidelines on how to treat this. I will update you soon.

In the meantime, I have been filling my time with creative pursuits. Here is the shortlist!

I am planning my vegetable garden and the new landscaping in my eastern WA house. Mostly I am envisioning the projects and my dear husband is making it a reality with his hard work and sweat equity. I now have my rose garden in raised beds, pots surrounding my perimeter wall ready for planting, and a vegetable garden planted with a new drip watering system and soon-to-be arches between the boxes for trellised plants.

I have taken up watercolor painting with the support of a college friend and love the calming meditative state that the creative process is bringing to my life. A reunion last month with my small group of college girlfriends has rekindled friendships from almost 40 years ago and brought new joy into my life.

I brushed off my long stashed-away sewing skills (the design school friends mentioned above helped rekindle that spark) and I recovered all of the cushions on my outdoor furniture. Fun, bright colors and patterns now replace the faded worn look!

I am spending as much time as possible outdoors in nature. The outdoors is my healing place, even if it's only sitting on the porch with my paints, hearing the birds sing, and enjoying the sunshine. I highly recommend it.

Meanwhile, back online in our virtual studio space, Angie and Paige are keeping the virtual studio doors open and doing a great job teaching both group classes and private sessions. Angie has taken the reins of my Monthly Mix class, so if you haven’t tried one yet, I highly recommend it! (The 3rd Saturday of each month 9 AM PT)

Wishing all of you a happy spring as we head into summer- my favorite time of year!

To your health and wellness- enjoy the outdoors as much as possible in this glorious sunshine!

Much love,
Ruth

We're swapping out our Monday and Wednesday classes for the month of June only! Angie is moving her Mat with Props class to Mondays at noon while Paige is moving her All Levels Pilates class to Wednesdays at 10:00 AM. Please note that Monday and Wednesday class times are staying the same, we're just swapping classes. STARTS JUNE 5TH!

Hi all, Angie here.

I've been enjoying stepping in for Ruth as she recovers. This month I have a class plan that includes a great standing warmup followed by some strength work. I will be using a large stability ball for the strength work, but I will give cues to use other more common things you might have if you don't have that specific prop.

No prior experience is needed. Just join the livestream class as you are (PJs are okay!), or show up to watch the video replay all month if you can't do the live class. Let's learn to move more fluidly and build strength together!

This class is only $10 and will help you build routines that make it easy to incorporate daily movement into your life, allowing you to move with more ease and become stronger in the process. Plus, you will have access to it for a full 30 days!

Every class includes a "Home work" section- a PDF of a short series of movements you can do every day at home in 10 min or less. Print the PDF of these sequences and put on your fridge to remind you to do them!

REMEMBER- YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND THE LIVE CLASS. You will have access to the recording and be able to do it as often as you like all month long.

Hello Reader, Have you ever had an injury that all of a sudden showed up and you don’t really know what you did, or how it happened? I jokingly call these “sleeping injuries” because sometimes I just wake up that way! Most people, when talking about this, will usually follow it with a comment like…“I guess I’m just getting old” as a way to shrug it off and continue on. But is that really what it is? Is there any truth to the idea of the age of our body is the reason it hurts? Is that what...

Hello Friends! Do you ever struggle with finding time for a full workout? Has the summer taken you away from your normal routine, and you found that a regular exercise routine was one of the things that maybe you let go of during the busy summer season? Or do you feel like if you can’t put in a full hour of exercise, it isn’t worth it? (I have been there!) So you skip it until later when you have more time… and that “later” never really happens. It's actually a bit ironic that my focus this...

Hello Reader, It feels like a change is in the air doesn’t it? Or is it just me? (Maybe it's just me.) At any rate, I am at a turning point! I got the ok from my surgeon last week that my broken wrist bone is healed and I can “do anything I want…. pushups, whatever,” because the bone looks great! I also “graduated” from my weekly PT sessions to every other week. I have worked hard to regain my wrist movement, but I do have a ways to go to heal the soft tissue, which is my next challenge. And...
